Parallel World
03:34
|
|||
I'd love to use this creativity and hone it into reality.
Instead this wishful thinking and this fantasy melt far too quickly into history.
In my parallel world, the strangest things go on but they're all resolved by dawn.
There are scenarios I love and scenarios where I'd think again, still they all come out in the wash.
There are people I know, people I'd forgotten I'd known and some I'd give my right arm to meet.
Situations I've lived, observations I"ve experienced, and others simple pie in the sky.
I'd love to use this creativity and hone it into reality.
Instead this wishful thinking and this fantasy melt far too quickly into history.
In my parallel world, where I tend to be late, fame and fortune are served on a silver plate.
I jam away with the greatest of them all and get mobbed on my way from the Colston Hall.
It's a believable con and I believe every time, like a pike getting caught on a fishing line.
I don't get thrown back in, I just fizzle out and die like a low-budget firework on Guy Fawkes night.
I'd love to use this creativity and hone it into reality.
Instead this wishful thinking and this fantasy melt far too quickly into history.

Mr Morality
02:52
|
|||
There goes the phone, it's Mr Morality.
So watch your step, if you see what I mean, he's so together.
He's not your conscience, just a blast from the past,
to make your childhood be the thing that will last forever.
No! (Don't let him have his way.)
Don't let him have his way.
(He'll want to have his way.)
Still watching you today.
Freedom's a bind, it's just a host of mistakes,
so curb your behaviour for heaven's sake, and just listen.
Mark out your territory, make it your own.
Stand on your feet, you've got to make it alone, I tell you.
No! (Don't let him have his way.)
Don't let him have his way.
(He'll want to have his way.)
Still watching you today.
You're OK, you're happy now.
You've found your way, your why, your how.
You're OK, you're happy now.
You've found your way, your why, your how.
There goes the phone, it's Mr Morality.
Select the details that you want him to see, he's so together.
Be sure he doesn't invade your privacy or he'll have you crawling on your hands and knees forever.
Forever and ever, and ever and ever.
Forever and ever, and ever and ever.

Bordeaux Watergate

Come back some other time although I swear I've got nothing to hide.
Don't go looking for ties, connections with bulk-buying I deny.
The liquid's what is claimed upon the label, though it may leave a somewhat bitter taste.
I don't want to be your Richard Nixon, I don't want a Bordeaux Watergate.
Where do those hectolitres find a home?
Your reputation's blown, whatever now, the damage has been done.
The wine is what it says upon the label, though it may leave a somewhat bitter taste.
I don't want to be your Richard Nixon, I don't want recycled Watergate.
We'll finally work out who's right and who's wrong.
And when you're through, ironically, we'll honestly thank you.

Four Walls
04:39
|

If these places could talk, my friend, imagine the tales they'd tell.
If these four walls had ears, my friend, just think of the stories they'd hear.
And so, here we are today, sensing the weight of history.
If these statues could see, my friend, picture the things they'd witness.
If these buildings could feel, my friend, dream of emotions experienced.
And so here we are today, calling on the history of churches, theatres, football stadia, town halls, market squares, stations, restaurants, concert venues, streets and promenades.
Now, in this empty room, recalling a sense of what went on.
Travelling back in time, painting the pictures of past worlds.
It's only an empty shell, a backdrop that's blank just like those churches, theatres, football stadia, town halls, market squares, stations, restaurants, concert venues, streets and boulevards.
If these four walls had ears, my friend, just think of the stories they'd hear.
If these places could talk, my friend, imagine the tales they'd tell.
